Helium Leak Testing, Inc started in 1960 when Al Markel purchased the existing laboratory equipment and services business of Consolidated Electrodynamics Corp (CEC) in Pasadena, Ca.

HLT has introduced several advances to the helium leak detection industry. The Dual High Speed Test Station (QC-DC) as well as the Absolute Static Pressure Analyzer were developed. HLT also designed an Adjustable Helium Leak Standard (AHLS) very early on. HLT also impacted the pipeline and petroleum industries by developing a dependable method of leak testing buried pipelines.
